Town of Annapolis Royal
A Town Crier was appointed by the civil authorities, often the Mayor, to keep the citizens informed of matters of national and local importance - anything from Royal events, wars, taxation, and minor misdemeanours, even lost dogs.
The Town Crier, being a true, trusted Royalist, was
also often empowered to uphold the law. In fact,
it was once a treasonable offence to assault or
interfere with a Town Crier in the execution of
                his duty.
Always being available for local events and Having won many Competitions, Peter Davies and his lovely escort Valerie Davies make wonderful representitives for the Town of Annapolis Royal.
COUNCIL RESOLUTION
RE-APPOINTMENT OF Town CRIER

Whereas the Office of Town Crier is an old and honourable one, steeped in tradition, ritual and purpose, and

Whereas the original purpose of disseminating news and information has not changed over the years, it being only the nature of the news and information has changed to reflect contemporary situations,

Whereas the Town of Annapolis Royal has a long history of having a Town Crier appointed to cry information and news to residents and visitors alike, and

Whereas the Town has been most fortunate in having appointed the present Town Crier, Peter Crofton Davies, who, with his escort, Valerie Davies, has represented the Town in many different venues and forums with great success, and

Whereas Peter and Valerie have been active as ambassadors for the Town in promoting the cultural and heritage qualities of our community, and

Whereas it is the intention to re-appoint Peter Crofton Davies as the Official Town Crier to the Town of Annapolis Royal and to also appoint Valerie Davies as the Official Escort to the Town Crier,

Be it resolved that such appointments are hereby made for the calendar year 2008, to be at the pleasure of Council.

Dated at Annapolis Royal this 17th day of December, 2007

Mayor John Kinsella
On behalf of Town Council
