This public, community event will feature a flag raising in honour of Pierre Dugua, sieur de Mons, the merchant explorer who established the Habitation at Port-Royal in 1605, the first permanent European site north of Florida. Dugua de Mons is responsible for the birth of French language in North America, and this makes Port-Royal and surrounding area the birthplace of Acadian culture. Come join us for a piece of cake to commemorate this important figure in the history of Nova Scotia and Canada. Other events will be occurring throughout the week. Il est responsable de la naissance de la langue française en Amérique du Nord, faisant ainsi de Port-Royal et de ses environs le berceau de la culture acadienne.
