Salt Box Talks: 50 Years of Heritage Preservation in Annapolis Royal

October 3, 2017 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

$10.00

In the summer of 1967 six intrepid people embarked on an adventure, the end of which is still not in sight (fortunately!). The town of Annapolis Royal was in a slow but apparently inexorable decline for its heyday as a bustling seaport and county seat. A number of its 18th and 19th century buildings were threatened; a number had already been demolished. In an effort to halt, even reverse, the trend, Historic Restoration Enterprises, the forerunner of the Annapolis Heritage Society, was founded and what became the O’Dell House Museum was saved from almost certain demolition.

Dr. Barry Moody, one of the original six members, will provide a personal overview of the 50 years of efforts by the society, talking about the successes and failures, the ups and downs of working in heritage preservation in Annapolis Royal.
