Nadine Belliveau – “I am fascinated with large format acrylic paintings as they invite the spectator to become part of the viewing experience. I also paint mostly in series for solo shows but in mini series for group shows. Working in series allows me to fully develop the ideas that I want to show and to better develop the techniques best suited for their renditions. My inspiration comes from a variety of themes from mystical to everyday topics to my environment. I work every day in my studio and feel fortunate to be in a position where I can devote my time to creating paintings. An important part of my process is meeting the many spectators who come to my shows and listening to their comments about my work.”

Penny Berens – “Time is a regular theme in my work. Recording the passage of time and simultaneously creating larger pieces and installations through daily, weekly or seasonal changes is fascinating to me. This ‘time’ around it is tempting to continue with that process of daily stitchings but perhaps it’s about time I included other materials such as family letters and photos and painting over them! We shall see! It is through the process that my work becomes what it is rather than through research and planning.”

Grace Butland – “I see collage as a metaphor for life. I take all these little disparate pieces – small scraps of assorted papers, found materials, bits from nature, whatever is at hand – and attempt to make them into a cohesive, meaningful whole, hopefully one that will resonate with a viewer. This, to me, is akin to taking the experiences of a lifetime – the people I’ve met, places I’ve lived, where I’ve traveled, jobs I’ve had, etc. and using them to create a meaningful life. Through both life and art, nature has been my inspiration. Nature is a master teacher of making many disparate parts into a cohesive and functioning whole.”

Sherry Caldwell – “I paint for pleasure, not just my own but for anyone viewing my work. I paint mostly in acrylic but sometimes in watercolour or gouache, and have used pastel and oil paint, sometimes together. Collage occasionally steps in, providing a different kind of creative break. I love being in the woods, breathing in the abundant oxygen all around, generated by the company of trees. My own garden, planted with intention and care provides its own comfort derived from massaging the earth, coaxing growth, creating fresh life… and being massaged in return by the earth: fragrance, sight, touch, sound soothe me, settle me and send me to the studio to try to capture all this.”

Diane Clapp – “Aldo Leopold stated in his book Sand County Almanac: “There are some who can live without wild spaces and some who cannot.” I cannot! Walking along a wooded trail, canoeing a lake at dawn, skiing across the open fields, sitting on the porch of our wilderness cabin, is how I love to experience nature. It is at those times that my mind forms an image which I am hopeful I can capture with my camera. Those images create the foundation of my artistic approach, irrelevant of whether I use paper or fabric to render the resulting work.”
