Please join us for an afternoon to celebrate and support the continued cultural and language revitalization of L’sɨtkukewaq, the people of Bear River First Nation. The event will include film screenings, birchbark canoe, dance, drumsong, cultural teachings, and Mi’kmaw language learning.

Highlights include:

🛶 World premiere of Kwitn – Canoe: Where Stories Happen, a documentary following Rose Meuse as she builds a traditional birchbark canoe with her brother and community

🎥 The short film Seven Paddles: Where Ancestral Wisdom Lives

🥁 Live jingle dancing, drumsong, and storytelling

🗣️ Mi’kmaw language learning

FREE ALL AGES EVENT!  Donations welcome to support L’sɨtkuk’s language initiatives.

Hosted by Rose Meuse, shalan joudry, Jenna Melanson, Christine Harlow, Rob McEwan, and Dusty Meuse.

There will be a donation box for contributions towards the L’sitkuk language initiatives.

“Building a canoe was never just about the canoe,” says Rose Meuse. “It’s a way of keeping Mi’kmaw language alive, and a way of learning who we are and how our ancestors would have seen things.”
