Acadian/ Mi’kmaq Tour

July 18, 2017 @ 2:00 pm - 3:10 pm

Experience Acadian / Mi’kmaw history, music, dance, food recipes, song, symbols & settlement in the land of Tewapskik and the “Cradle of Acadie”. From encampment site of the Mi’kmaq for thousands of years to the arrival of the French and birth of the Acadian culture, from the deportation to the modern renaissance movement, learn the full story first-hand from award-winning heritage interpreter, Alan Melanson, a proud 10th generation Acadian / Métis. Meander down the thoroughfare the Acadians would have walked. See the fort that served as capital for both the French and the English. Go to the wharf where 1664 Acadians were deported from Annapolis Royal. Hear Alan’s amazing personal story of his ancestors’ deportation. Visit the site where the history book was written that was used as reference for the poem “Evangeline”. Retrace the renaissance of the Acadian culture. Discover the Cajun connection. Learn the secrets to making a great Rappie Pie. Sponsored by The Historical Association of Annapolis Royal since 2004, this special tour helps maintain and preserve the Annapolis Royal Lighthouse and won Nova Scotia’s “Hometown Pride Event of the Year” Award.
