Grant Potter Memorial Park and Playground Revitalization Update
While The Grant Potter Playground will remain closed for a few more weeks until the snow and ice is gone for good, there have been some exciting developments in the efforts to fund the upcoming revitalization project. The current project plan is divided into two parts; addressing drainage to ensure accessible walkways, installing new inclusive swings, slides, climbing and balance features and a gazebo/shaded seating area will be “Phase I”. Upon completion of this work, the boat is to be replaced with an equally exciting but more accessible and inclusive new boat in Phase II. The estimated cost for Phase I is $142,000, and the boat/Phase II an additional $40,000+. The Town of Annapolis Royal has now received Federal Accessibility funding for $59,000! The Town has applied to various other complimentary grants that are being reviewed, but we still need your help! As part of the budgeting and grant application process we have set a local fundraising contribution goal of $10,000. These cash donations will be directly applied to the purchase of new features such as a double slide, swing set, and shaded seating area, which will be purchased and installed as soon as these fundraising goals are reached. These locally raised funds also represent an investment from the local community and help the likelihood of our current grant applications being successful. The date that the sum of individual community donations will be reviewed by the Provincial Funding Committee is Feb 28, 2024. So if possible please donate before this date as it strengthens our application, though funds will be happily accepted anytime until we reach the $10k goal! If we exceed this amount, all funds will be directly applied to the project to make the playground an incredible space.

Beginner to intermediate youth players are invited to participate in just for fun scrimmages with coed teams. Bring water, indoor sneakers and a positive attitude to play some fun volleyball and improve game play.
