Board of Police Commissioners

The Board of Police Commissioners (BoPC) is the civilian body to which the Annapolis Royal Police Department is accountable. The Commission is a statutory body created by the Police Act and the Town of Annapolis Royal’s Annapolis Royal Board of Police Commissioners Bylaw to oversee policing in town.

BoPC is a link between the community and the police with a mandate to balance the requirements of public accountability with those of police independence. The Commission acts as an intermediary between the police and elected officials. The Commission’s authority is of general supervision of the Annapolis Royal Police Department and can make decisions and issue instruction as a statutory body.

Meetings are held quarterly on the second Wednesday of the relevant month (March, June, September and December). Meetings commence at 10 am.
